History

This office had a modest beginning as the Office of the Deputy Controller of Defence Accounts (DCDA) (Pay) under the Controller of Defence Accounts Western Command (WC). On 15th January 1981, it was upgraded to the office of the Controller of Defence Accounts (CDA), Headquarters. The first CDA of the office was Shri R. B. Kapoor. In April 1998, this office was upgraded to the office of Chief Controller of Defence Accounts. On 20th September 1999, this office was rechristened as the Principal Controller of Defence Accounts, New Delhi.
